The Title Race: Man City Vs Arsenal & the surprising role Tottenham have to play.

Introduction:

We haven't seen a title run in like this in quite some time. With City dominating the league the last 3 years. Arsenal came very close last season but fell at the last hurdle. In this article we look at Man City's fixture run in to Gameweek38 & also analyse the surprising role Tottenham Hotspur play in this 2 horse race.

Manchester City Fixtures

Wolves

Man City with a game in hand and 1 single point behind Arsenal. They look like favourites to win 4 Premier League titles in a row. Up next in GW36, City play Wolves at home in the Etihad Stadium. Earlier on in the season Wolves managed to produce a shock win against City, in a scoreline of 2-1. This was during the period where City lost 3 games on the bounce. The Wolves defeat was nestled in between a Newcastle & Arsenal loss. These were City's only defeats this season. Wolves are currently sitting pretty in 11th position who have had a difficult end to their season, which has been rife with injuries. A City win is surely imminent given Wolves comfortable position in the table & City's star studded lineup & home fixture.

Fulham

Up next City will face Fulham away, who are currently sitting in 13th position. Fulham have had a very good season with players like Iwobi & Leno being consistent performers for the team. The inclusion of Muniz has been pivotal to Fulham's success as they lacked the clinical strikers touch that Raul Jimenez wasn't providing in the early stages of the season . City beat Fulham 5-1 at home in the previous fixture back in September with Erling Haaland netting a second half hat-trick. Anything can happen in Football which is why we love it so much like Carlos Teves signing for Man City, but I think Fulham will be on the back foot big time in Gameweek 37.

Tottenham

Now the fixture which is probably the one on the top of all football fans minds at the minute and that's the City Vs Spurs game in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium. As this fixture will more than likely define the season. Would Spurs fans rather to sacrifice a top 4 spot to stop Arsenal winning the league? Or would they put their pride aside and challenge City and drive for top 4 and a Champions League spot.

Spurs have played some of their best football in years - back to the days of Dele Ali balling out alongside Harry Kane. But, they continue to do a "Spursy" on it and remain inconsistent throughout the course of the season. That aside, Tottenham are City's bogey team beating them 3 times in their last 6 games, drawing once and losing twice. Their last fixture was in the FA Cup when Ake scored an 88th minute winner. The last time these two met in the league we saw a 6 goal thriller resulting in a 3-3 draw. With the ginger from Sweden Kulusevski equalizing in the 90th minute.

The anticipation for this game is immense as a Spurs victory would almost ensure their North London rivals Arsenal their first Premier League title since their invincible season in 03/04. On the flipside, Tottenham are still in contention for top 4. Although they are 7 points off Aston Villa with 2 games in hand the task does seem out of reach with Spurs having to play Chelsea & Liverpool prior to GW37. Tuesday May 14th 8pm (GMT), a fixture nobody will forget.

West Ham

Although the penultimate fixture of City Vs Spurs holds more anticipation, if City draw against either Wolves, Fulham or Spurs. And City and Arsenal win the other respective games. We could see a league decider on the last day of the season. Potentially going down to goal difference. Arsenal have the stronger goal difference with +7 goals on City.

Conclusion

Spurs Vs Man City Vs Arsenal
Man City Vs Spurs Vs Arsenal

Regardless of the outcome, the run in will be one we will never forget. Manchester United fans still have nightmares over the time Martin Tyler screamed "Aguerooooo" as City clinched the league in the 2011/12 season. Will history repeat itself or will Arteta and his men pip Pep in the final hurdle in this two horse race. Tottenham have a pivotal role in this saga, they're not the main character by any means but without them the storyline wouldn't be as good. Like Derek from Step Brothers.

I hope you enjoyed my take on City's run in to possible Premier League glory. Tell a friend if you enjoyed it :)
